Who Am I, Where Am I Going

All of the images on my board all link to peace in their own way, John Lennon being one of the mane singers in the beetles and was a hippy, Bob Marley a well-known peace figure, the anonymous mask because they don’t take credit for what they do they only spread peace to make peace they put a stop to many tragic events in places like Egypt and Yoda a fictional character from star wars who believes in only peace and the force.

I spread all the drawings apart because at first I thought there was too much going on in the piece now all the spare space I have a black background with John Lennon’s multi-colour hair. I done this to group up all the images on my board.

Before I started I scaled it out and put the shapes of my images on and painted the background a yellow/orange to make my board stand out to others and then painted my images and drew the mushrooms across the board to give it a psychedelic affect.

As for the letter I gave it a red base and blue out line to magnify it so it stands out instead of blending in with the images.

I layered out the images in four corners with the letter in the middle for two reasons one was to make the letter centre of attention  and the other reason was to get as many mushrooms in the back ground as possible to make it look like there is a lot going on in the picture.

The feelings im trying to communicate is peace, love and respect. At first I had psychedelic mushrooms all across the back ground of my piece and was told to change them, so I then painted over the background in a multi-colour effect of  john lennons hair this represents happiness and makes the layout of my images on the board collide much better and look more artistic.

I think the background is much better now because my design is a lot more eye catching and different to all the other boards with block colour backgrounds, even though my partner also had block colours I put some of John Lennon’s hair into her design this decision made our board link.

When I was painting I realised how different I was painting on each image for example yoda I took my time slowly brush stroking with a thin tip paint brush and when painting the bob Marley it was a lot more simple and blocked out the colour with a thick paint brush with abit of water to help the paint flow, this took half the time in comparison to yoda. When painting John Lennon I only used thick brush strokes and different colours to give him a psychedelic look I personally think it worked, The anonymous mask I painted was very like the Bob Marley due to them both being silhouettes. John Lennon’s hair I made stand out because I painted the background black.

My ideas changed though out doing the project because something’s didn’t make sense to the theme and the message I was putting across for example the mushrooms as the background I luckily had time to change, I think the john lennon affect is way more effective than the mushrooms because it makes the composition of my board come together allot better as the mushrooms made my board look messy and unorganised.

I most enjoyed experimenting with John Lennon because I have never attempted to paint in the way that I did to make him look psychedelic with only brush strokes and different colours I also used his hair to group all the images together so I painted the background black and with all the colours I used on john lennon I spreaded out across the board covering yodas ear and going through most images, I didn’t like painting yoda because I feel like I spent too much time making him look realistic and not experimenting with him.

The artist that most inspired me was Kara Walker I was originally going to paint a portrait of Bob Marley but I thought of a silhouette and liked the way it came out on my final design idea and knew that I could relate the silhouette of Bob Marley to Kara Walkers work.

If I had to do this project again I would experiment more with colour selection way of painting, different techniques and would have painted the hole board a block colour to get my back ground then do the tie dye affect this would have saved me a lot of time in the long run, I would have kept all the images as they are in the same composition because I think it worked well and all of the images relate to me and to each other .
